Most delicious Chinese cuisine

By admin at 10:30 am on Thursday, February 8, 2007

This is something I need to share! A friend recently brought me to THE best chinese restaurant here in Bangkok and the food was just amazing! I miss good Chinese food here and it’s always so comforting to actually find a place that serves authentic, good Chinese cuisine. Enter Sukhumvit Soi 49 by Sukhumvit road and just about 250 metres down on the left side, you will see a yellow (or is it green…) sign saying “DEMI Taiwanese and vegetarian food.” That’s the place and no, they are NOT a vegetarian restaurant but they do serve vegetarian food. Try their dumplings, stir fried pork with tofu and basically anything that jumps out at you on their menu. They have those menus with pics for every dish so when in doubt, just point! Prices are reasonable too. Enjoy!

My favourite restaurants

By admin at 10:52 pm on Thursday, January 11, 2007

Here’s my list of favourite restaurants in Bangkok. I do believe they are about the best you can find in their respective catergories:

French

I LOVE French food especially those tasty snails and delightful crepe suzettes. Le Banyon on Sukhumvit SOi 8 is hailed by many as the best French restaurant in Bangkok, and I certainly have become hooked since I was introduced to it 5 years ago. It’s been around for yonks and is located in an old-style bungalow mid-way down Soi 8 on the left. Food is delicious and the price is extrememly reasonable. The escargots are to die for, and so is the pressed duck. They do very good fish and you can get by with less than a 1000 bht for 2 without any wine orders. Bookings are neccessary and the tel. no. to call is 022535556

Italian

A little pricey but very popular restaurant amongst both locals and expats is Zanotti’s on Silom, Soi Saladaeng. Everyone I know raves about their parma ham pizza but another thing you really must try is their Florentine steak. I mean, I have never tasted a piece of steak tastier or more tender. It is divine! Pasta is good too altho’ I’m not a big fan of pasta so I cannot comment much there. Ambience is great and is packed every night. You can find a map and tel. no at www.zanotti-ristorante.com

Chinese

I must admit that I don’t eat a whole lot of Chinese food here. I just cook them at home! But when I do, I go to the Great Shanghai on Sukhumvit road, right by the stairs to BTS Phrom Phong (Peking duck is superb!) or Crystal Jade at the Emporium food hall. I know that there is the up market Cystal Jade restaurant at Siam Paragon which I have not tried but you can’t go wrong with Crystal Jade restaurants. They have branches all over Asia and everyone of them is packed to the brim during lunch and dinner. That should say something…

I still have more but gotta get back to work. More later!

Tasty Finds

By admin at 10:54 pm on Wednesday, November 22, 2006

Here’s a page especially for the food lovers. If you do not already know, Asians are crazy about food. We would drive for miles just to try something new or highly recommended by whoever, and spend hours talking about where’s the best place for seafood, pasta, sushi etc. My husband, who is British learnt this when he went on a trip with my parents to Malaysia, and had to stop every few miles so that my father could have a taste of this and that. After about 5 stops in an hour, he was practically begging my dad to stop eating and keep moving. Many like my husband cannot understand how anyone could be so obsessed with food, but believe me, we can :) Many comment about how the Thais are always nibbling. That’s right. They nibble all day and always have some sort of snack at hand. Whenever I’m feeling a little peckish, I’d go over to anyone of my colleagues and they’d have an assorted choice of tid bits to offer. Since I am proclaiming myself to be THE BANGKOK FINDER, then I’d better not leave out one of the most important topics of all. FOOD. And that is what you’ll find on this page. You will not be disappointed ;)

Cheap and fresh sushi anyone?

By admin at 10:36 am on Wednesday, November 22, 2006

If you love Japanese food, especially Sushi but find it too costly to visit Fuji every week, then you’re going to dig this. Try Torajiro on Thonglor soi 13 (the soi just before J Avenue). Located amongst several other Japanese restaurants in a “Japan town” sort of compound, this place serves authentic Japanese food at amazing prices. Compare a plate of Salmon sashimi at Fuji for 350 bht. Here you’ll get the very same thing for 150 bht - that’s half the price! One thing you gotta try is their bbq meat skewers. The chicken wings, pork with asparagus and bacon wrapped in mushrooms are to die for and they also have plenty of stuff for vegetarian. If you don’t trust my review, here’s one thing that will convince you - the restaurant is always fully booked and 80% of their patrons are Japanese. That should tell you something. Tel: 023814100 or check our their website for a map http://www.torajiro.net/

Enjoy!
